A slick drill collar, also known as a drill collar, is a tubular piece of a drill string which provides weight on a bit for the purpose of drilling. While drill pipes become the bulk length of drill strings, drill collars create solely a little quantity. They need thick walls machined from the solid bars of steel. The steel bars are plain steel but are non-magnetic premium alloys or non-magnetic nickel-copper alloy. These bars provide a path for pumping drilling fluid via the collars.
The drill collars are used in spiral and slick designs with some additional features, it can be used for trouble free and safe operations. The spiral collars prevent drill strings from getting stuck in holes by allowing lubricant and drilling debris.
